Intro: After the first shock has worn off, Koichi wants to move on, but he finds that other people are more concerned with the past events than he is. Thus, even though the investigations hit a dead end, with hte introduction of a specialist the riddle is supposed to be solved. But then, what is Koichi himself hiding? And does his secret show a way to the solution?

“I totally don’t get the big fuss,” Koichi mumbled, a pout on his face.

At the same time he shifted uncomfortably, though, indicating that he was feeling highly uncomfortable.

“You don’t get the fuss?” Tsuyoshi repeated irritatedly. “A crime was committed at the agency, there’s not a clue that can be found about the issue and you have lost your memory of the events. I dare say there’s plenty of reasons for making a fuss.”

“Well, I really can’t remember anything,” Koichi shrugged. “But I don’t feel like I’ve been violated, or anything. I mean, in some way I would have had to feel it, wouldn’t I?”

“How would I know?” Tsuyoshi asked with a shrug. “It’s not like I’ve ever been in a similar situation. That’s why we’re investigating the issue.”

“I still don’t like it,” Koichi complained. “All those people strolling around, taking me back and forth, asking me the same bothersome questions I don’t have an answer to.”

“I understand,” his partner nodded sympathetically. “But hey, don’t you want to know what happened?”

Koichi thought on that for a while. “If it’s really something very bad, no, I absolutely don’t want to know. And if it’s nothing of importance, it’s not worth the effort.”

“Koichi, since we’re doing all of this anyway, why don’t you just accept it?” Tsuyoshi suggested. “It’ll make things easier for you.”

The older man simply nodded weakly. In that very moment, the detective in charge approached them, Johnny walking right by his side and not looking pleased at all.

“Domoto-san,” the detective began in an even voice. “I apologise for the inconveniences we’ve caused you. As it is, I am sorry that I have to tell you that we have no clues what-so-ever that would hint at a crime. It is most unfortunate that you have no memory of the event in question, but all our investigations hit a dead end. We didn’t find any indicators on the scene that would help our investigations and while it is an undeniable fact that sexual intercourse has happened between you and an unknown person, we did not find any signs of violation.”

Koichi nodded. “That’s what the doctor said as well.”

“As we cannot forge a case from the facts that we have, I am sorry to tell you that our investigations end here,” the detective explained.

Koichi was almost glad to hear that. “Well, if there’s nothing to be found…”

“I have told Johnny-san that the investigation can be re-opened within the next year,” the detective told him, “any time your memory comes back, for example.”

Koichi merely nodded in understanding. “Thank you for making the effort.”

“What are you thanking him for?” Johnny barked out. “They’re just reading their reports, going on about lack of evidence, but they don’t put any effort into finding evidence.”

“Johnny-san is very worried about your well-being,” the detective continued, obviously feeling very uneasy. “That is why he has asked us to get someone to give you personal protection.”

“Protection?” Koichi repeated, eyes growing wide.

“Johnny-san has suggested that someone might be worried about your memory coming back and thus hunt you.”

“Oh, come on,” Koichi dragged out, rolling his eyes.

“Koichi,” Johnny spoke up with a strong voice, “I will not discuss this with you. Something happened at the agency and for one I want to know what it was and for another something like this can certainly not happen again. So I have urged that while the investigation is resting, we get according support to help us clearing the issue.”

“That is why one of our investigators will be assigned to you personally,” the detective took over again. “He is a specialist as a body guard as well as in other fields. His name is Kajima Shinichi and he will start his support in your case first thing tomorrow morning.”

Koichi bit his lip. “Johnny-san… Do you really think that’s…”

“The very least I could have been offered,” Johnny scoffed. “I’ll check the abilities of your specialist,” he addressed the detective, “and if he’s no good, I’ll send him right back to you.”

“Kajima-san is an expert in his field, please don’t worry about that. I have already contacted him and informed him about the issue.”

Koichi sighed. “Well, I guess it can’t be helped.”

“Domoto-san, please recover soon. Take care of yourself,” the detective said with a bow. “Feel free to contact me any time you remember something relevant.”

With that the man took his leave, the rest of his force following in his wake. Some of them were chattering in low voices. Tsuyoshi blinked as he caught bits and pieces of a conversation.

“Kajima… Why was he assigned?” one of the men asked.

“He’s expendable,” his colleague retorted. “He has these stupid ideas and works in odd ways.”

“That’s why he hasn’t been assigned to anything ever since he returned,” the first man grinned.

“Is he the guy with the long hair?” a third guy barged into the conversation.

“Yes,” the first guy confirmed.

“I’ve seen him a few times, but he never does anything,” the third guy mused. “What is it about him?”

“Ah, you wouldn’t know,” the second man said with a nod. “He went to America before you joined.”

“America?”

“Yes, he took part in an exchange,” the second man explained. “He had a special… well, `training´ there. Nobody finds any use for it here, though. So they mainly keep him in the office.”

“Well, it seems like the dragon is flying again…” the first man stated. “That’ll be interesting.”

“The dragon?” the third guy asked, blinking.

“Not so loud,” the second guy urged. “That’s what we call him. He’s a total Mah-Jongg geek, even keeps carrying a tile at all times. A red dragon. Thus, the name.”

“That sounds weird,” the third guy said uncomfortably.

“He’s a bit of a weirdo,” the second first man agreed. “But he’s always been a good detective. And he’ll give it his everything to solve this one. If he does well, it’ll get him his respected image back. It’s gonna be very interesting indeed.”

Tsuyoshi frowned slightly. Somehow he didn’t like that weird guy to hang around Koichi all the time. He’d definitely have to keep an eye on things.

“Hajimemashite. Kajima Shinichi desu. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu.”

KinKi Kids blinked oddly at the man bowing in front of them. They weren’t exactly used to such formal introductions.

“Ano… Hi,” Koichi offered awkwardly. “I’m Koichi.”

Kajima moved back up and blinked at Koichi. “You are Domoto-san, right?”

“Please, leave it with Koichi,” Koichi requested.

“I’m afraid I cannot do that, Domoto-san,” Kajima answered. “As we’re not familiar with each other there’s…”

“There’s gonna be a problem,” Tsuyoshi cut in.

“Sorry?”

“We’re always and only addressed by our given names. Koichi won’t even answer well to Domoto-san, so you’d give him a hard time forcing it on him. Plus, I’ll be around a lot too and I happen to have the name of Domoto as well. So, you see it would be quite confusing saying Domoto-san.”

Kajima blinked for a moment. “Wha- You… you’re brothers?”

“No,” Tsuyoshi dragged out, rolling his eyes. “Seriously, haven’t you done any research on the people you’re assigned to?”

“Ah,” Kajima smiled apologetically, “I believe in research on the scene.”

“Well, you can do whatever you want,” Koichi shrugged, “so long as you don’t get in the way of our work.”

“I understand, of course,” Kajima nodded, “and that’s very well. Just… the very first thing I should do is question you on the matter, don’t you think?”

Koichi inspected the weird guy. He was rather tall, but he looked nothing like a policeman. Actually he looked exactly like you would imagine a nerd to look like. Worn jeans, a simple, unfit sweater, plain sneakers and longish hair that fell into his face. His clothes were clean, though, and he didn’t look greasy, or unpleasant. Actually, Koichi thought that if he got the according clothing, he’d make a good host. Koichi had a weird association with “L” for a second, then shook his head to clear it.

“Are you okay, Domoto-san?” Kajima asked, sounding worried.

“I, er…” Koichi frowned, trying to organise his thoughts.

“Well, if it’s all that disturbing,” Kajima offered, “then Koichi it is. And… you are?” he asked, looking back at Tsuyoshi.

The addressed man blinked in surprise, but answered readily. “I’m Tsuyoshi.”

“Okay,” Kajima mused. “Tsuyoshi…” His head went back to Koichi. “And Koichi. So, can I ask a few questions now?”

“But I’ve already told the other officers everything,” Koichi explained. “Really, I don’t think your `research on the scene´ is very effective.”

“Well, why don’t we give it a try?” Kajima suggested.

Koichi sighed. “Fine. But please be quick.”

“It won’t take long,” the detective promised. “Okay, let’s start with the basics. You were born in KinKi, right? And your family still lives there.”

“Well, yes,” Koichi frowned. “But what does that have to do with anything?”

“It’s really just for the record,” Kajima smiled. “And you started to work at this company in 1991, is that correct?”

Koichi merely nodded.

“And ever since then,” Kajima continued, “have you ever gotten into serious fights with other people in your agency?”

“Well, of course there have been fights,” Koichi admitted. “But nothing that I’d call drastic.”

“Do you agree?” Kajima asked in Tsuyoshi’s direction.

Tsuyoshi shifted uncomfortably. “Well… I agree… basically.”

“Basically?” Kajima frowned.

“Well,” Tsuyoshi said, licking his lips, “it’s… Koichi has a very special… position.”

“Oh, please, Tsu…” Koichi whined.

“No, no, let him continue,” the detective requested. “Every bit of information can help.”

“It’s that Koichi is Johnny’s favourite,” Tsuyoshi explained. “No matter what it is, or what the costs, Koichi will get it, because the boss adores him.”

“I see,” Kajima mused. “That will earn him envy.”

“It’s nothing worth talking about,” Koichi cut in. “I mean, sometimes you bitch at each other, kids are just like that. But other than that it’s completely harmless.”

“I shall do research on the matter,” Kajima said with a smile. “Just to be entirely sure.”

“If you want to waste your time,” Koichi shrugged.

“How about people you are close to?” Kajima suggested. “Have you been dating anyone, or broken up with someone lately.”

“That I’ve also already explained. I haven’t been seeing anyone. I’m busy working, so I haven’t been dating.”

“A fashionable guy like you isn’t getting hit on?” Kajima asked with a frown.

“I am nowhere near fashionable,” Koichi sneered. “And for the very last time, there’s nobody I’ve been involved with.”

Kajima sighed. “Koichi-kun,” he said, sounding almost apologetical. “If you want me to help you… I need you to be truthful to me.”

At that both Koichi and Tsuyoshi stared.

“What?!” Koichi gasped out.

“You just lied to me,” Kajima explained, a sneer of his own slipping onto his face. “I cannot see what exactly happened,” he admitted. “But you definitely lied when you said you’re not involved with anyone?”

“And how would you know?” Tsuyoshi demanded harshly.

“When Koichi answered to me, there was slight fear in his face, as well as guilt,” Kajima explained. “Thus, he was ashamed of lying, or probably ashamed of what the lie contains, and he’s scared that someone will find out about it.”

Something snapped in Tsuyoshi’s head. Hadn’t those policemen explained that this guy had had a very special training? Was that it? Could he read lies out of other people? He shifted uncomfortably again. Then his gaze went to Koichi.

“Is he right?” Tsuyoshi asked evenly. “Is there someone?”

Koichi bit his lip. Then he sighed.

“I couldn’t tell you, okay?” Koichi bit out irritatedly. “You would have… I couldn’t have explained it to you.”

“A guy?” Tsuyoshi guessed.

Koichi nodded.

“Koichi-kun, you have to say who it is,” Kajima urged. “It might be a hint.”

“He’s right,” Tsuyoshi agreed.

“Oh, shut it,” Koichi barked. “I cannot say. It would cause too much trouble.”

“There’s gonna be more trouble if you keep your mouth shut,” Tsuyoshi warned him.

Koichi sighed once more, sinking his head.

“Uchi-kun,” he finally mumbled.

“Uchi?” Kajima asked, looking back at Tsuyoshi.

“Uchi-kun,” Tsuyoshi frowned. “He’s in our company,” he explained. “Works with Koichi. But he’s dating Nishikido-kun.”

Kajima’s eyes lit up lightly. “Is that true, Koichi-kun?”

A small nod was his only answer.

“Really, Koichi,” Tsuyoshi said, his voice sounding displeased. “With another guy’s man…”

“It just happened somehow,” Koichi shrugged. “It’s nothing serious. He would never…”

“The one you’ve been sleeping with isn’t all that interesting,” Kajima told him. “Rather the one he’s dating. What’s his name again?”

“Nishikido,” Tsuyoshi repeated. “Nishikido Ryo.”

“Nishikido Ryo,” Kajima mused, his hand slipping into the pocket of his sweater, fumbling with something, pulling it out and playing with it. At closer inspection Tsuyoshi could see that it was a Mah-Jongg tile. A red dragon.

“Eh…?” Kame merely stood there, gaping at the guy standing in the door.

“Tadaima,” Jin grinned, letting his bag fall down on the floor as he walked in.

The younger boy merely kept staring.

“Oh,” Jin said, picking his bag up again, “is it not okay? I mean, now that I’m officially not part of the group anymore… am I not allowed?” he joked, although he was actually feeling a bit anxious.

Kame shook his head, in order to clear it.

“Er… no,” he finally squeaked out. “I mean, of course. Of course, you’re welcome. I just… didn’t expect… well, you.”

Jin laughed lightly. “Well, I guess I should have called?” he mused. “But then, that would have spoilt the fun. If you could see your face right now…”

Kame chuckled nervously, scratching the back of his neck.

“H-how come?” he wanted to know.

Jin blinked at him for a moment, then he grinned again.

“Got homesick,” he said simply, then made his way further into the room, flopping down onto the couch.

Kame merely bit his lip. There he was again. Simply swishing through the door, and just like that being in his life again. The one man he’d had so much trouble with in recent years. Whom he had fought with countless times. Who had insulted him on numerous occasions. Who had given him the creeps. Who had caused him sleepless nights. The one person he had wished to not meet again – let alone so soon. The one person he could not forget. The one he loved – had always loved and will always love. Silently, but irrevocably. Even after pushing him away, he was still drawn to this man, who was his biggest desire. The one thing he couldn’t have…

“Hey, let’s eat out?” Jin suggested, bending his head to look at Kame.

“Ah, sure,” the other nodded with a smile.

Shit…

“No,” Koichi protested for the umpteenth time. “You can’t…”

“I have to investigate the issue,” Kajima replied, patiently ignoring the agitated singer, who was jumping around him in weird patterns.

Then, however, it was too late, as Kajima opened the door in front of him.

“Nishikido Ryo,” he said plainly.

Several heads turned to look at him.

“Er… sorry?” Yamapi asked, blinking.

“We’re looking for Nishikido Ryo,” Kajima repeated calmly.

“And… you are?” Koyama asked suspiciously.

“I’m his friend,” the detective explained bluntly, pointing at Koichi, who was standing in the door, feeling very uncomfortable.

Koichi’s presence did its work, though.

“Oh, Koichi-san,” Koyama squeaked out, surprised. “What’s all of this?”

Kajima stepped to the side to make way for Koichi and while he still felt very, very uncomfortable, he walked into the room, scanning it warily.

“I… I want to talk to Ryo,” Koichi finally muttered.

“Okay,” Koyama nodded. “He’s in the shower right now, but I’ll deliver the message.”

“Thank you,” Koichi said with a nod. “I’ll be waiting for him in studio B.”

“Are you planning some kind of secret project?” Koyama joked.

“Just tell him where to find me,” Koichi replied quickly and with that retreated.

“Okay, now that was weird,” Yamapi commented.

Koyama merely nodded.

“What’s weird?” Ryo asked, as he came back from the shower, rubbing his hair.

Yamapi quickly gave him the facts and then looked expectantly at his friend, who was putting on a clean shirt.

“Any idea what he’s on about?”

“Not a clue,” Ryo shrugged.

“It’s weird,” Yamapi analysed.

“Maybe for SHOCK?” Koyama suggested.

“Hardly,” Ryo commented. “Hiro has already signed his new contract. He’s totally excited about it. He’s come to really love the show. I’m happy about that too.”

“But then what?” Yamapi mused.

“I’ll go and find out,” Ryo decided and with that swished out the door.

Not even five minutes later he knocked on the door of studio B. As he opened it, he blinked, surprised, as he found three people in the room. For one, Koichi, then Tsuyoshi as well and also another guy he’d never seen before.

“Hi,” Ryo said weakly.

“Hey,” Koichi greeted him back. “Please, sit.”

“What is it that you want?” Ryo asked, as he sat down on a free chair.

“I… I am very sorry Nishikido-kun,” Koichi said, licking his lips. “There is something I have… to tell you.”

Kajima’s eyes narrowed as he saw the boy tensing.

“What is it?” Ryo asked, his voice even, but a bit tight.

Koichi glanced at him nervously. “I don’t really know how to begin…”

“Just tell him,” Kajima urged, wanting a stronger reaction he could analyse.

“Who is he?” Ryo asked, shifting his attention to the detective.

“I found something,” Kajima told him plainly. “But I thought it would be better for Koichi to tell you personally. So?”

Koichi sighed deeply, which got him the younger man’s attention again. “Nishikido-kun… I am very sorry about this. The thing is…”
